About your author:

William Faulkner said, "A writer must teach himself that the basest of all
things is to be afraid." The greatest and best authors in the world
weren't just writers: they were fearless explorers. They dashed out into
the wilderness of the world and of their own hearts and minds. They
were strong, powerful men and women. The modern vision of the "author"
is an emaciated, pale, nervous and shy shut-in, huddled over their
moleskine pouring out drama and pain onto the pages with a leaking
fountain pen.

Your author

Though introspection has largely become a cliche and a
sign of weakness, it would be difficult to apply that stereotype to writers like Woolf, Rand, Faulkner, Twain, Whitman, Thompson, Palahniuk and an inumerable host of others who wrote with power and grace.

This weblog is a record of my exploration of a fearless life. This is a reassertion of the author as a leading visionary and explorer. This is one fearless step. Welcome and please stay to take a look around.

Some hope

Hope, true hope, the kind that you sense almost physically like steam rising from your mouth; the kind you know has soaked in the misery from which it promises to save you–does not appear and disappear at random. It also cannot be conjured by any will or inner meditation. Hope is as much a part of human existence as breathing. The very fact that we exist and have free will and free minds: incites us to hope. We hope and have hope because God loves us and, secondarily, that we can improve our station in this world or at least our outlook on the station to which God has assigned us.

October 11, 2010 - 3:40 PM Melissa - Whoa. As a Star Trek fan, I was not sure if this should scare, humor, or offend me. Nice.

Stone Brewing 14th Anniversary Celebration

Here are some pictures from Stone Brewing’s 14th Anniversary celebration that happened at CSUSM this last Saturday the 2st. There were over 150 beers from around the globe including many from here in San Diego. I noticed there were a disproportionate number of breweries present from Oregon and Colorado. Are these areas hubs for the craft brewers?

September 15, 2010 - 7:16 AM YESPROP19 - You are a filthy, disgusting hypocrite for supporting alcohol like this while endorsing that No On Prop 19 BS. Go die in a fire.

September 15, 2010 - 12:58 PM shaunkeating - Okay, I can see that you're obviously emotional about this as your anger prompted you to encourage me to perish is a blaze of fire. Very mature and opened minded of you. I have two things to say in response. First, I don't really see how I am supporting alcohol by posting pictures and a description of an event held by a brewery. My post did not advocate (in any way) any position towards such an event. Second, WTF does marijuana have to do with this post?

Strange lights above San Diego

I took this video last night around 10pm. There were 3 lights hanging in the sky over what appeared to be San Marcos. But they were most likely above the Marine Base at Camp Pendleton. I don’t know how long they were there for but once I saw them, grabbed my camera and got it running there were only 2 left. As you can see they flickered out pretty quickly after that.

Stone Brewing 14th Anniversary Party

Stone Brewery is 14 years old and they’re having their 14th anniversary party this Saturday. I’m going to it. 120+ beers from around the world in 3 hours…yup. I’ll be walking over to Mr. Taco afterward to chill for a bit. =) There are 2 “sessions” on Saturday. Session A goes from 11am to 2pm. Session B goes from 3pm to 6pm. I don’t like drinking beer for breakfast so I’m going to Session B. Tickets are $40 and all proceeds go to the Surfrider Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of San Marcos, Palomar YMCA in Escondido and FightALD. Drink beer for charity everyone! Find out more information and buy tickets here.

First image from Coen’s True Grit

The first image from the Coen brother’s new movie True Grit has surfaced. It features Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn and Hailee Steinfeld as the feisty and intelligent Mattie Ross. True Grit was written by Charles Portis in 1968 and adapted into a movie in 1969 starring John Wayne and Glen Campbell. This movie is at the top of my most-anticipated movie list. #2 on that list is the new Resident Evil moving coming out next month.
